The Journey of A Crafty Couple: Part 1 – The Inspiration Behind A Crafty Couple

I’m Cindy, and together with my husband Ken, we are more than just a couple—we are a team whose shared passion for crafting sparked an unexpected journey that led to a business. Our story is one of inspiration, art, and the magic that happens when two distinct talents come together. Like so many people during COVID, we found ourselves searching for meaningful ways to fill our time, and that’s when our crafting adventure began. This special moment during COVID is what set our journey in motion.

A Special Surprise During COVID

During COVID, Ken surprised me with a sewing machine. That thoughtful gift opened up a whole new world of creative possibilities and truly launched our crafting journey.

Discovering My Creative Path

I refreshed my sewing skills by using patterns to make clothing, but soon found myself exploring creative projects like bowl cozies and hanging kitchen towels (the kind that hang over the oven handle, just like grandma made.) The bowl cozies were my first big project. I decided to find the perfect fabric to represernt each member of my family, and give them a handmade bowl cozy for Christmas. Since the cozies keep your hands from getting burned when removing hot dishes from the microwave, I  felt I was creating something useful.

Ken’s Woodworking and Laser Crafting

Ken has always enjoyed woodworking and creating items people liked. Wanting to explore new creative outlets, he purchased a laser printer. He taught himself how to write computer programs to create amazing items, starting with coasters and then moving on to keyrings. Later, we discovered that if I gave him a pattern, he could use the laser to cut out fabric for my sewing projects. Then Ken began laser cutting earrings, which he gave to me to paint and add hooks. Our jewelry journey grew as we enjoyed combining our skills, making bracelets and earrings together.

Handmade with Heart

Every item we made carried a piece of our hearts. Our focus was always on practical, heartfelt creations. We began by gifting our items to family members, and friends.
