After our crafting journey began during COVID, things started out slowly. We spent time experimenting, making gifts for family and friends, and learning what people liked about our creations. In the Spring of 2025, our first step into business was simple: we let a teacher friend take our handmade items to her school and set them up in the teachers’ lounge. The excitement grew as we started receiving CashApp payments from teachers who wanted our bowl cozies and kitchen towels. That was the moment we realized our crafts had real potential!

Encouraged by this early success, Ken and I decided to take a bigger leap and participate in local pop-up markets. These markets became the perfect place to showcase our work and connect with our community. Each weekend, we set up our booth, arranging Ken’s beautifully crafted cutting boards and coast. You know, the kind of kitchen towel grandma used to crochet and hang around the oven handle.
Market-goers came to our booth, and our practical, heartfelt creations resonated with customers. We enjoyed positive interactions, made new friends, and saw a flurry of sales that inspired us to keep going. The demand for custom products grew, and we found ourselves working late into the night, devoted to our craft and excited for what was next.
The joy of creating together and sharing our work with others strengthened our bond and fueled our entrepreneurial spirit. Each market brought new requests, suggestions, and ideas, and we loved seeing how our handmade items could brighten someone’s day.
Stay tuned for Part 3, where we share how our growing business led us to build our own website and reach even more people!
TIP for POP UP MARKETS: Create an eye-catching display to attract visitors and showcase your best handmade items. Greet customers warmly and share the story behind your crafts to build a personal connection. DON'T BE SITTING DOWN.
